Colossians 3 Cardinal Flower

Behind the Design

Harvesting iron weed for my mom's fall display, she and I clamored through the tall weeds in the meadow with much fear and trepidation.  Puddles ran wild through the brush sniffing, wagging his tail, and overall presenting a completely different picture than we.  As I enjoyed watching him, this flower caught my eye.  I squatted to get a close up and my faithful Great Dane bounded over to check why I was no longer standing erect!  This flower represents a time of love, joy, and togetherness as well as overcoming fear.  Researching it later (because yes I am a nerd) I discovered it is a wild flower known as the Cardinal Flower.  Often used in love potions, Colossians 3:14-15a created a play on the flower's love history as well as our walk.
